Sustainable Pilates - Taking Responsibility for the Planet as well as your Wellbeing

As I’ve got older certain things have become more important in my life, responsibility for the planet is one of them. Ok that sounds very grandiose I know but I’m trying to do my bit. I’m Flexitarian but eat more Vegan food now, I avoid as many single use plastics as I can and I do seek out eco-friendly and sustainable brands for everything from make-up to homeware, not to mention the most frequently used items in my wardrobe - namely my Pilates clothes. I live and breathe (literally!) Pilates and I have been actively looking for Pilates clothing that I can wear knowing that it has come from a sustainable and ethical source and looks good too. Most recently I was approached by a lovely Swedish brand called Pebbles Pilates who asked me if I’d like to try their product. I have to be honest it was great to be approached as most often, and I think if you’re older like me you will know this, sportswear brands only feature very young, very agile movers which can put you off if you’re older. We all need peers to connect with after all. Pebbles Pilates is a sportswear brand who develop each of their pieces together with women like you and me. From all ages and stages in life, of all shapes and sizes, women who are curious about their next move. They were recently acknowledged by Forbes as one of the sportswear brands leaving a positive social impact. Their clothing is made from recycled material crafted from ocean and landfill waste, industrial plastic and fabric scraps from clothing manufacturing - and everything is produced at ethically responsible factories in Portugal.

Being a Pilates mover for 20+ years, I know what I want from my clothing. It has to move with me, keep everything in place and, of course not have any buttons, buckles, zips or fastenings that can irritate the skin. I have terrible memories of doing my Californian Pilates training in sports bras that had the usual hook and eye at the back, right on my spine. Every time I did a rolling movement it would dig into my skin and I still have the scar to prove it! The Pebbles clothing feels great, silky smooth, comfortable and the sports bra is a revelation as with a larger than average chest there are few options in sports bras that hold you in, tame things down and don’t reveal too much! They also have a super comfy t-shirt which you can throw over the top or wear with jeans on a day off which is what I do. Anyway enough from me, here is what Pebbles have to say:

“The label proposes a buildable workout wardrobe where newer designs are additions to existing collections. Instead of discarding trendy, fast-fashion workout wear, PEBBLES PILATES encourages consumers to invest in items that are relevant and timeless in appearance, function and quality.”
