5 Minute Recipe to Boost Energy, Crush Sugar Cravings and Calm inflammation

Have you heard of inflammaging? Many people ask me what I eat to keep a healthy weight and I can honestly say now I’m post menopause I’m looking at ways to reduce the inflammation associated with ageing rather than targeting weight loss. It’s inevitable as we age that we get a low-grade inflammation which, over time, will make us feel more tired, achy and also makes us vulnerable to health issues like heart disease, arthritis, brain fog and diabetes. Inflammaging cannot be avoided, just like ageing can’t be avoided, but there are so many ways we can reduce it. Feeding our ourselves in a more therapeutic way is one and inevitably it will lead to weight loss if you’re eating more healthily. Reducing sugar and increasing protein is a key element of this. Here is a quick 5 minute recipe to have to hand when you feel the cravings of hunger in the morning and want to avoid reaching for the sweet stuff.

Chia Pudding Breakfast Bowl
Prep: 5 minutes
Chill: 20 minutes
Serves 2
60ml unsweetened almond milk
175ml full-fat coconut milk
¼ teaspoon vanilla bean extract
2 tablespoons chia seeds
1 tablespoon hemp protein
50g fresh blueberries
2 teaspoons bee pollen
2 tablespoons of hemp seeds
1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the almond milk, coconut milk and vanilla. Add the chia seeds and hemp protein powder; whisk to combine. Pop in your fridge for 20 minutes, whisking occasionally to distribute the chia seeds, until they have absorbed the liquid and the mixture has thickened. More or less like a thick custard consistency.
2. Divide the mixture between two bowls. Top it with blueberries, bee pollen and hemp seeds.
Now, I often don’t have all the ingredients I need to hand. Or, I have something in the fridge or store cupboard that I need to use up. My version was with apple & kiwi fruit instead of berries. And pistachio and almond nuts instead of bee pollen. Feel free to improvise yourself and let me know what combination you go for below! ❤️
